Civil Engineering Draftsperson

Salary range: $70,000 to $90,000 per annum

About the role:

  • Leads and takes ownership of the Structural Engineering drawings, drafting standards, drawing management in line with production and business needs.
  • Check, review and update vendor drawings, documents to deliver error free deliverables.
  • Develop Mayfield standards for construction practice and build a library of details.
  • Works collaboratively with the rest of the Engineering and Design team with delivery of projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understand construction strategy and recommend/implement activities to improve the process around structural engineering, and overall.
  • Learn and understand design and construction methods to deliver details that conform to standard practices.
  • Work with Design team to review and refine work practices to bring improved efficiencies in design, construction methods and materials usage, with a more modular system/approach.
  • Proficient in any of the following 3D modeling software SolidWorks / Revit / Advance Steel / Tekla. Participate enthusiastically in implementing a strong 3D CAD capability within the team.
  • Basic checking of design and drafting work done by others to ensure compliance and correct interpretation of design intent.
  • Work with and assist others in the Engineering and Design team in a collaborative and professional manner as required.
  • Ensure specifications, performance or functional requirements are followed in all the projects.
  • Liaise with Engineering team for designs based on development work, or construction and production engineers associated with the construction or manufacturing of structures or products.
  • Checking of fabrication drawing in line with General arrangement drawings and checklists.
  • Strong knowledge of AS/NZS 1554 & AS/NZS 5131 relating to detailing, fabrication and welding of steel structures and steel detailing, construction methods and their impact on design.
  • Check fabrication model as per project criteria, Opportunities for Improvements and lessons learnt from the past projects.
  • Interpret architectural and engineering drawings to create computer generated 3D modelling.
  • Able to produce Engineering drawings from sketch.
  • Modification of existing drawings to new revision.
  • Preparation of Bill of materials.
  • Prepare as built drawings from RLM.
  • Resolve client comments and amend drawings as required.
  • Prepare conceptual rigging arrangement drawings as per standard.
  • Arranging fabrication pack received from contractor to a folder structure as per Standard.
  • Issue drawings to client and subsequent revisions in client drawing template.
  • Prepare non-standard structural details in discussion with construction team as required.
  • Develop departmental standard drawing database, structural library.
  • Be responsible for the quality of structural drawings.

Requirements:

  • Essential: Degree or equivalent in Structural/Architectural drafting.
  • Desirable:  3D Modeling expertise in Revit / Solidworks / Advance Steel / Tekla.
  • Experience: 5 to 10 years’ experience as a Structural or Architectural drafting experience in Steel buildings.
