Arborist

Salary range: $65,000 per annum

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the pre-start maintenance log book is filled in daily as well as the assessment of risks and completion of the Hazard Identification Assessment & Control (HAC) sheet is finalized daily. Ensure any hazards on site are reported throughout this process.
  • Ensure all works are completed as per the estimation on a daily basis whilst ensuring safety inspections are accomplished.
  • Ensure all climbing equipment is checked and maintained daily and establish and maintain clear lines of communication with the observer and ground crew at all times.
  • Ensure safe working distances are maintained from the powerlines and conductors at all times and establish and implement an agreed vegetation drop zone.
  • Ensure thorough inspections to determine if any precautions or special techniques are required and assess if the tree/s is safe to climb.
  • Perform safe and competent climbing using approved rope safety harness and appropriate climbing techniques.
  • EWP operations may be required as per the request from management.
  • Ensure the EWP is operated at a safe speed; taking into account the load, environment and weather conditions whilst also ensuring that it is the suitable EWP for the required job and being aware of insultation requirements, ground conditions, height and reach and the type of work that has to be completed.
  • Ensure that the Safe Working Load (SWL) is clearly marked and observed and that tools and other equipment are also taken into consideration.
  • Conduct all work safely and adhere to WHS company policies and procedures at all times, whilst representing the company in professional manner.
  • Safely operate plant and chainsaw equipment using approved techniques and controls whilst effectively trimming or removing vegetation in accordance with the relevant standards and work instructions. Ensure the trimming of the trees is aligned to the required profile and to the clearances specified in the Quality Plan for the Contract.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment are controlled and maintained in good repair, whilst also reporting any equipment deficiencies to the Supervisor and/or workshop in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the maintenance of minimum and safe working distances when working directly around powerlines, whilst ensuring that the observer or grounds-person is in place to monitor the clearances. The climber must always comply with the instructions of the grounds-person/observer.
  • Ensure all environmental and community considerations are addressed during all operations.
  • Take every precaution necessary to safeguard client and public assets and ensure the worksite is left in a safe and tidy condition at all times.
  • Ensure effective and positive communication with the Supervisor and crews, whilst actively participating in team meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Aid in clearing the debris from the worksite and in the final clean up for the day.
  • Ensure the EWP is shut down and prepared for the next job as per the manufacturer’s and work instructions.
  • Ensure effective and positive communication with the Supervisor and Operations Manager on a daily basis to discuss work priorities, progress and any other work-related issues.
  • Complete any other task as directed by your supervisor/ manager

Essentials:

  • Relevant Qualification plus at least 2 years’ relevant experience or at least 3 years’ Arborist experience.
  • Current & Unrestricted Drivers Licence
  • Elevated Work Platform License
  • Chainsaw Operators Qualifications/Certificates (desirable)
  • MR/HR Class Drivers Licence (desirable)
  • Prevalent commitment in working safely through physical exertion and natural ability.
  • Physically fit and able to maintain consistent output throughout the working day.
  • Ability to work as part of a small team relying on each individual team member to achieve safety and productivity outcomes.
  • Mature outlook and good communication skills as well as high levels of conscientiousness and the ability to comply with rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Able to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment and in various types of weather conditions.
